Eric Carle is renowned for his captivating and imaginative picture books designed for young children. His most famous creation, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, has been translated into 70 languages and sold over 55 million copies worldwide.
With over 70 illustrated books to his name, many of which became bestsellers, Carle's work has sold more than 170 million copies globally.
In recognition of his outstanding contribution to children's literature, Carle was awarded the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award in 2003 for his lifetime achievement.
In 2002, Eric and his wife Barbara established The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, Massachusetts. Spanning 40,000 square feet, the museum is dedicated to showcasing the cultural and artistic significance of picture books and illustrations from across the globe.
